Carnage

If you have not seen the play from which its adapted then it’s a good watch though it lacks comedy except for few genuinely funny moments.
4 super stars try to create the magic but failed due to plain vanilla adaptation. Director could have made it better by adding more depth then what can be shown in stage. Its watchable.

Lanka

Lanka is movie on Ramayna with a twisted end which makes it a good watch. Incredible acting by Manoj Bajpayee, Arjan Bajwa, Tia Bajpai and Yatin Karyekar. It shows the pain of many women helplessly suffering from various forms of exploitation and domestic violence.
Its a serious movie with less romance, more drama and good story. A good watch.

The Dirty Picture

One of the most awaited movie of 2011 does complete justice to it’s awaited tag and name. A very touching story, razor sharp dialogs and brilliant performance by Vidya and other co actors.
It might not be liked by everyone due to some vulgar dialogues, reveling cloths but it was necessary to show the biopic nature of the film. It does get a bit slow after interval but Vidya manages well to keep you hooked to seat. On the whole, a good watch.

Tower Heist

Not sure how to start, I guess the script writer also felt same while writing the script. Movie takes too long to start and is full of logical errors which are hard to digest.
If you are an ardent follower of heist movies then this is not for you but if you believe in journey and not the destination then you might like it. You will feel satisfied between the top and bottom of your popcorn bag but not while eating top and bottom popcorns.

Rockstar

If you solely watch this movie based on story then you will be a true blue artist by the end because such artist are made by suffering pain. But movie accompanies AR Rahman’s addictive music, Nargis’s Katrina like expressionless acting and Ranbir’s rocking performance.
An average watch but very good sound tracks (AR’s best after Delhi 6), music takes time to mature but after effect that u just can’t stop listening.

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster

An adaptation from Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam (Meena Kumari – Guru Dutt) in new era with north indian countryside settings. Thought it derives the essence from the original but the interpretation of the tale has an attitude and identity of its own, thereby averting any categorical comparisons.
Its must watch because of 2 reason. First, it is heavily imbued with atmospherics and mood which creates a whole new world that's somewhat familiar yet totally intriguing and second, amazing performance by Jimmy Sheirgill, Mahie Gill and Randeep Hooda.

It showcases 24hrs of life (in a financial firm) before 2008 market collapse and moral dimension of financial firms. It’s an explosive drama showing the time we live in.

Killer Elite

Except Jason Statham fans, no one will have fun watching it. The movie is a result of lazy writing and is boring. Inspite of having a starry star cast, none of the characters are developed well. Even good action is missing.
Overall, it has very few good stunts and a boring desert chase. It can be missed.

Tere Mere Phere

Sushmita Mukherjee’s Tere Mere Phere is as delicious as rasgullas. Tere Mere Phere is opposite to what name suggest, its of black and satirical kind. Its wonderful, except for ending where audiences are left wondering the reason for change in chemistry and ultimately a marriage.
Except for Riya sen, everyone was amazing. A good watch.

Rascals

A David Dhawan film. What more you expect, same 90’s farcical genre movie. The tone of humor is consistently loud and the screen is full of bikini gals.
No plot, no directing and no acting. Everyone seems to be on a holiday except Lisa Haydon, as she fairly does her hot look job.
Looks like this film was made for a long excuse to let camera ogle at semi nude gals with some accidental burst of laughter.

Mausam

Is it a timeless love story? Episodic narration of Indian’s catastrophic history? Or a love story where Herry and Aayat spends more time away then together?
Songs are beautiful but chemistry between the actors is missing. All acted average except Sonam, she was too jovial for the act.
It’s an over long movie, while watching it u will pray for another catastrophe to strike and thereby end your turmoil. Skip it.

Bodyguard

Remaking a movie 3 times needs a lot of courage especially if it’s something like Bodyguard and is removing hero’s shirt thrice makes it a hit?
Siddique, you and people will get bored with so many repetitions. Few twist and turns in the end dont make a good movie.
Bodyguard on the whole is a pure Bollywood masala movie where Salman is trying hard to balance between his Maine Pyar Kiya and Dabang image. Few good fight sequences and comedy based on physical appearance. But not to forget… it has good punch lines.
Watch it only if you don’t have anything else to do.

Movie Reviews: Super 8

A movie trying to reignite the 70’s – 80’s sci-fi nostalgic thrill. This old charmer has some well picturised scenes, good acting kids and a nicely told story.
The story has nothing new or revolutionary but overall pretty enjoyable with main focus on kids and friendship.

Friends with Benefits

A comedy with well-worn setup. Boy meets girl in quirky setting, they become friends, and then things get rocky after tennis (casual sex). Justin and Mila hooked up well, and is an old story with new style of boy-girl meet.
Watch it in because no other good movie is released this week. It’s not a bore and in line with many others made earlier. It’s an otherwise cute, fun movie.

Singham

Must watch for anyone having body building fad… you will envy Ajays physique.
Now coming to movie, a full on masala remake of 2010 Tamil film. Suddenly Bollywood is back to 1970 -  80’s action style after Dabang hit the jackpot, this is another addition to the sequence. The energy, drama, stunts of the film will leave you glued in your seats but it’s just routine.
Watch it for Ajay, his physique, the pun on corruption/politics and few fantastic dialogues.

Horrible Bosses

Are you dragging yourself to office every morning… then watch ‘Horrible Bosses’ for some comfort… Three abused employees meet up in a bar to grouse about their bosses and to plot their murders. But they haven’t a clue how to accomplish this and hire a “murder consultant”.
The film is an average summer comedy with a number of silly moments but few laugh-out-loud surprises… Performance of each character was good but Aniston could have chosen better ways to shed her good girl.
You could watch it for time pass.

Delhi Belly`

Lately Bollywood started its romance with off-beat movies for youth and this is one on such track but less impressive than others.
It’s a same old story told in a different way having daring moments, daring words and a lot of cursing. In short it’s only for young people and strictly not to be watched with kids and family.
It’s a comic thriller movie with no comedy and thrill but good narration and short length makes it easy to watch.

Water for Elephants

A movie is about a love triangle with a center point (Rosie), Jacob & Marlena loves it because they love each other and August hits it as he can sense sparks between Jacob & Marlena. Thats it... this is the story.
The actors are gorgeous, of course, and the sets and costumes artfully recreate the wonder of a Depression-era circus, but except Rosie there is no chemistry between anyone else… you will only be moved by the pain of the animals and not humans…

Naughty @ 40

Naughty @ 40 is a sex comedy, where Govinda plays the role of a 40-year-old virgin and is inspired by The 40 Year Old Virgin and has been adapted to suit the Indian sensibilities. Though the film seems senseless at many places, there are a few instances which are actually funny, like a scene where Govinda talks about camel, elephant, flies and dogs matting. Though the film belongs to the sex comedy genre, the film sometimes tends to cross the border and turns out to be vulgar
A comeback film for Govinda and he is as usual outstanding when it comes to handling comedy. His comic timing cannot be matched by anybody.

Shor In The City

11 days, 3 parallel tracks connected by money but they don’t cross paths and nor is the film episodic. It belongs to one of those rare categories of movies with sensibilities that would not only entice festival crowd but also the mango people. It will keep you on the edge but is also one helluva entertainer. It’s a comedy with a completely different handling that might not leave you in laughter riots but make you smile off and on.
Shor In The City’s music doesn't make much Shor but the movie itself is good.

Chalo Dilli – review

An exciting and amusing road movie with terrific moments. A light, nicely written - directed movie with an intelligent no romantic linkup between characters which makes it different from the other movies of similar genre.
Vinay Pathak acts well, Lara suits her role perfectly, Yana fails to impress in her item number and Akshay’s role is short and sweet. On the whole a good watch and yes watch it till the last seen as it has some really good information which might be useful if not aware ;)

Arthur – review

A remake that ended up being exactly the same as the previous one with a bit more of crude comedy. A simple, straight, predictable film about a stinking rich, spoiled, drunkard kid / man who in the end understands what he want and takes a path to get it.
Few of very touching moments between Hobson and Arthur are really emotional. All characters have acted well but it’s in the shadow of the earlier make.
Watch it if you are free and have not seen the earlier make.

Fast And Furious 5 - review

Action speaks louder the words, once again Justin Lim manages to keep everyone pinned to passengers seat for over 2 gas-guzzling hrs and without any drop in testosterone level. You will never feel crushed between biceps, bullets, collapsing buildings and metal traveling… superfast…
Luke and Dom look the same, sound the same and — despite starting at testosterone-fuelled loggerheads — they even end up wanting more or less the same… it sometimes make you wonder, do they need a room… their clashes seem like a throwback to the '80s action oeuvre, it even takes you to an era where musclebound tough guys use to solve problems with their fists…
This is high-octane, supercharged stuff with hardly any minute of low volt… either a car crash, or maybe Dwayne Johnson with a machine gun and a scowl… It ended up with my inner 12-year-old clapping along with goofy, wide-eyed appreciation.

Dum Maro Dum – review

Set on the backdrop of Goa ‘Dum Maro‘Dum’ is an interesting thriller. Fast pace, mystery, suspense makes it a good watch. At times it will bring you to the edge of your chair, and what more to say, dont want to break the suspense...

Each actor fits its character. Zoey represent Goa itself, a child of the hippy generation, a mix of local and foreign culture, innocence and beauty have gradually been replaced by cynicism and abuse. DJ Joki, a mute spectator representing Goan common man who never raises voice against anything wrong. Abhishek Bachchan perfectly fits the cop but Deepika’s dance number is disappointing.
After a long time a good thriller. Go watch it.

F.A.L.T.U -- review

The movie tries to raise some valid questions about our education system like Taare Zaameen Par and 3 idots but is not class apart. It’s a normal movie with some comedy… though hard to spot…
It has 2 things to look for… 1st title “F.A.L.T.U” and songs… very nicely composed and choreographed… its an average movie that you can relax at home and watch…

The Adjustment Bureau - review

A story of a man suffering of paranoia OR are we really being monitored by a benign conspiracy? It’s about how he makes decisions, proves free will, conquer challenges for the love of his life.
Thought provoking movies that remind us of how we make choices, compromises and to say: “All I have are the choices I make, and I choose her, come what may.”
Adjustment bureau had everything. Sci-fi, mystery, drama, romance and twists and turns but It’s not a movie to be taken seriously though has an interesting idea at its core.

Tanu Weds Manu – review

Romantic comedy developed in the back drop of arrange marriage setup. It offers nothing special but can charm you. Some of the best scenes of the movie are shown by simple eye contacts and smiles with no talking but on the other hand few scenes are disappointingly lengthy with constant blabbering.
'Sadi Gali' and 'Mannu Bhaiyya' gives a different flavor to the movie.
Kangna gels very well in the role of care a damn attitude girl, while Madhavan does very well in his true good to be true boys role. Other supporting actors also do well. You can watch it once.

True Grit – review

It’s a film about death. A film about loss, revenge and what stirs a spirit of self-sacrifice in a character. Mattie directs the life of US bounty hunter reluctantly riding with her for money to hunt down a guy who killed her father.
Steinfeld is astonishing in her composure and conviction, Jeff and Matt are also very convincing. Nicely picturised but nothing extraordinary.

7 Khoon Maaf - review

It’s a film of Susanna a beautiful lass, her half a dozen husband’s and her search for love. Each being an army major, rock star, sensitive poet, kind doctor, handsome Russian, police office and have their own nasty streaks.
Vishal tried to give each episode a touch of reality by giving references to Kargil war, Babri Masjid demolition, Pokharan nuclear explosion, IC-814 hijack and is brilliantly shot and enacted short stories. Except Darling, rests of the songs are disappointing though gelling well with the movie atmosphere.
Superb acting by Priyanka Chopra and men are equally engaging. Even Ruskin Bound the writer is in special role says “It all comes down to love, sweetheart” to sum up the movie. A must watch film having few unanswered questions like did the husbands deserve to die? Were the murders out of necessity or pure blood-lust? Who’s the 7th victim?

A story of fugitive, slacker alien and 2 geeks. Though repeated references to star war, star trek, Raiders of the Lost Ark and at times uneven pace makes it a bit dull but still its able to make you giggle with its situational comedy, chemistry between the 3 and a tinch of romance acting as spice.

Patiala House - review

It’s not a movie about love, cricket but it’s about life. It’s based on relationship between patriotic father, marionette son and how son wakes up to the 2nd chance to follow his passion. It’s a movie about attachments, affiliations and familial bonding, about respect and trying to adjust to contradictory values that generally crop up when one relocates to another country. The well connected plots takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride of highs and lows.
Though nothing new except the backdrop of cricket and expectations are zilch but superb acting by Akshay after Namaste London makes it a hit material after so many duds.
Just go for it!!!

The Fighter - review

‘The Fighter’ is a darkly funny, cleaver Massachusetts based true story of a boxer. It’s not another Rocky or Cinderella Man instead its story of relationships and need. It’s a piece with manic energy and a great balance between edgy, dark humor and addiction to family, past, and drugs.

Yeh Saali Zindagi - review

Zindagi pe tera mera, kis ka na zor hai. Hum sochte hai kuch, yeh sochti kuch aur hai… goes very well in introducing the theme of the movie. This could be the move twisted love story of the year with so many characters, sub –plots, flash – backs, intrigues and counter-intrigues. Each characters life is interwoven in a web of desire, deceit and determination in this audaciously staged, wildly choreographed thriller with romance at the centre.
The movie is zany and racy entertainer with an idea of projecting mess and chaos. The fascinating part is that every character finds a humor in its situation and still retaining their shady side. Go and watch it.
